Cheapeating In Midtown
During a busy day in Midtown, I had time to enjoy a proper lunch. But where would I go? Strolling down 9th Ave, I glanced at menus and peeked in windows. But something caught my eye and I knew I found the perfect spot.
Kashkaval is a cozy cheese shop, wine bar and cafe that serves Mediterranean cuisine. I think dining at the bar. is the best seat in the house, and that’s exactly where I sat. My server was sweet and helpful. I couldn’t decide between the Salmon or the Turkey Meatball. Of course, they’re 2 of her favorites. After much deliberation, I decided to go with the Salmon.
When my server set down my plate, I knew I made the right choice. The Salmon was marinated & cubed, then wrapped in grape leaves and grilled. The salmon was moist, with just the right amount of smoke from the grill. It came with a Greek salad and mushroom bulgur on the side.
I savored every bite and thought I was making a dent in my dish. But every time I looked down, my plate was still full. As much as I wanted to finish it, I couldn’t. I know what I’m having for dinner tonight. 🙂
If you don’t have time to dine in, you can pick up a tapas sampler for $10.
Kashkaval, is my new favorite spot in Midtown. I’ll be back and will try the meatballs…I think.
Happiness, $25 and under.
