HOW YOU CAN SUPPORT HURRICANE SANDY RELIEF EFFORTS

IN LIGHT OF WHAT  HAS HAPPENED IN OUR AREA, CHEAPEATS WANTED TO SHARE THE FOLLOWING UPDATE FROM FARM 2 ME. IF YOU CAN HELP…..PLEASE DO. NO ACT OF KINDNESS IS TO SMALL.

Please help,

In the aftermath of Superstorm Sandy, Farm2Me is trying to work with organizations to deliver over 20,000 meals to our neighbors in NY and NJ without power. Would you think the the incubator would like to donate and help deliver 10k meals Tuesday and 10k meals on Wednesday? We would like to use all of the work we’ve done so far recruiting our vendors in NYC to help feed those in the most severely affected areas on the coast of Staten Island, Queens, Brooklyn & Hoboken, NJ.

Our Members for this campaign: Lumpia Shack, Asia Dog, Milk Truck, Solber Pupusas, Palenque, Bite Size Kitchen, Casa de Cambia, Mighty Q’s, Danny’s Macaroons, Liddabit Sweets, NYC Healthy Bites, GrowNYC Greenmarket vendors, NYC Food Truck Association vendors, New Amsterdam Market vendors, Community Greenmarket vendors, Ivy Bakery, & more

Some organizations involved in the disaster response effort.

All of the details of the IndieGoGo campaign are included below :

Overview

In the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy, Farm2Me worked with Smorgasburg vendors and Blood Bank to recruit volunteers in Williamsburg to help those in NY and NJ without power. We are determined to bring 20 of our vendors together and get 20,000 meals to our neighbors in NY and NJ. We have been commited to recruiting volunteers and organizing resources available to volunteers since day 1. We would like your help to continue these efforts in the most severely affected areas on the coast of Staten Island, Queens, & Brooklyn.

On Saturday 11/3, Smorgasburg vendors gave 15% off on purchases to those that signed up on Farm2Me’s facebook and twitter pages, to recruit volunteers to serve in Brooklyn, Staten Island, and NJ, via 14 sponsored vendors.

Tomorrow, on Monday 11/5 we will continue to offer 15% off at participating Food Truck Lots and farmers / food markets.

Many individuals and businesses have written and asked to see if they could sponsor meals… and the answer is: Yes you can! And we will put your money to use immediately to feed those in need!

TOMORROW, Tuesday 11/6 with the money YOU donate by 12 noon, we are planning to serve 1k hot meals to New Yorkers in Staten Island, the Rockaways, and Redhook.

What We Need

Food trucks are small businesses that are run by resourceful and caring entrepreneurs. They have the desire and infrastructure to help, but not the resources to do as much as they might like. Working with sponsors and the larger community helps us make a larger impact in helping those who are still suffering from the storm. We are looking for sponsorships to pay for food and fuel for vendors / food trucks to go out and serve communities in NYC that were most affected by Super Storm Sandy.

  • A hot meal from a food truck costs about $7
  • We are hoping to raise $7,000 to distribute 1,000 meals tomorrow
  • All the money will go towards food and fuel for food trucks to sponsor outreach (minus the administrative costs of indiegogo)

If we cannot raise the full amount we will simply put the money raised towards food and fuel for trucks to donate what they can

What You Get

Depending on the amount you contribute you can get all sorts of fun goodies like free high-fives from your favorite vendor, a social media shout out as a contributor, or even the ability to choose your favorite food to serve in an affected communuity.

The Impact

Many communities around NYC have been entirely destroyed by Super Storm Sandy. A hot meal is a small way to help those who have lost power, water, telephone access, and possibly even their home have a moment of comfort.

  • We can move fast and get help out to those who need it quickly.
  • We have been running outreach to affected communities for the past six days and want to do more to get hot meals to those in need.
  • Just check @farm2me for all the positive reports from the field about how this outreach has been received so far in areas affected by Sandy

  1. We are completely blown away by the number of people, across the country, that have come out to support us. And even more inspired by NYC’s local food system coming together to feed the Rockaways, Staten Island, Coney Island, NJ and Long Beach!
