London Hotel Search
When Cheapeats won the British Airways Face to Face Contest, we were SSSOOOO excited to be heading to London. One our favorites cities and the start of our legwork for expanding Cheapeats globally. Only 1 night hotel stay was provided in our prize, so the rest was on us. Of course being in the center of the city was on top of the list.
Not having travelled to London for a few years, I was shocked by the prices. But the mission was to be a cheapeater and cheap traveller. Can I find a great but cheap hotel? Let’s see.
Of course I browsed the never ending hotel sites….Expedia, Hotels, Orbitz, but I was on information overload. I really wanted to find a cool, boutique hotel. There are some great sites for that….Boutique Hotels London, Visit London, Mr & Mrs Smith.
Through my research I found one that looked cool, hip and was in a prime location. Indigo Hotel priced approx $200US. Not bad. OK I’m set. Then I got a call from a friend. “Remember the invitation you extended? “Well I’m coming to London and I’m bringing a friend.” Well that changes everything. Now with more buying power, I can stay in a nicer hotel. I scoured all the hotel discount travel sites again and but only found deals on single rooms, not a room that can accommodate 3 people. Darn! There was a hotel that I found in the beginning of my search that looked fabulous but it wasn’t in the budget. Sure enough, it was on my friend’s list too. While on one of our many calls discussing this trip, I decide to go their website. Looking at the pix, I’m falling in love with it all over again. While reviewing the availability dates, I noticed a button; “SPECIAL OFFERS”. Among the many listed was the answer to our prayers….STAY 4 NIGHTS 20% OFF. My first reaction was that it can’t be true. I immediately called the hotel and find out that it was. I can stay in my dream hotel!!!!! So, I make a reservation at the St Martins Lane Hotel .
This hotel is the COOLEST ever!!!! Located steps from Covent Gardens, Trafalgar Square, Piccadily Circus and the Leicester Square tube station, made it the ideal spot.
The staff was AMAZING!!!!!!! Ed greeted me as soon as I arrived. While Spike, the charming bellman, grabbed my bags, I realized I didn’t have enough cash to pay the taxi. No problem. Ed offered to pay the taxi and bill it to my room. I’M GOING TO LOVE THIS HOTEL!!!!! Love it I did. Simon hooked us up with a great corner room that was away from the busy street noise and had great city views. I had my office area to work, without disrupting my friends. The spa bathroom was stocked with Malin & Goetz products and plush towels. Delicious!
When we needed a drink, we didn’t have to go far. The Light Bar is happening!!!! Most pubs close at midnight but The Light Bar keeps going well passed the bewitching hour. As a hotel guest….you walk past the lines and right in. LOVE THAT!.
Need a reservation? Tube directions? Yoga? Dino – The Concierge will hook you up. LOVE HIM!!! When he’s not on duty, see Alex.
OK you’re wondering, how much did this hip, cool hotel cost? Our Standard Double Double cost £328 a night or $518 US. Split between 3 people, it came out to approx $200 per person including taxes. The same amount I was paying at Indigo Hotel!!!!! So I got to stay in my first choice and had a fabulous time.
One tip….check the exchange rates periodically because they do change. My £328 got reduced to £318 a week before I arrived due to exchange changes. Hey, every little bit helps.
Happiness, $25 and under.
P.S. I kick myself for not searching their site sooner. If I would have booked it 21days in advance, I would have gotten 30% off. DARN!
