Elvis Panini..Is It Good Enough To Win?

Elvis PaniniCheapeats has been asked to taste test Nature’s Pride new line of 100% natural whole grain bread.  This bread contains no artificial flavors or colors. No high fructose corn syrup, artificial preservatives, or trans fats. Just whole grains. Our favorite was “12 Grain”  made from whole wheat, oat, barley, buckwheat, millet, corn, amaranth, quinoa, brown rice, rye and lots of other natural and tasty ingredients. The bread was nutty, hearty and moist with a hint of sweetness from honey. Each slice contains 14grams of whole grain.

Whole grains carry lots of nutrition that our body can absorb. You don’t have to eat cardboard to get your intake of grains. It can taste good and be good for you. Who knew?

Our next challenge was to create and submit the “Best Bread Recipe.” The winner will be announced at the 1st Annual Foodbuzz Festival in San Francisco. Here’s our entry.

Elvis Panini

2 slices of Nature’s Pride 12 grain bread

2 tablespoons of natural smooth or chunky peanut butter

1 teaspoon of honey

1 banana

1 teaspoon unsalted butter

Optional – powdered sugar, cinnamon sugar

Mix honey and  peanut butter in a small bowl. Spread mixture on 1 slice of bread. Slice bananas on top of peanut butter. Seal sandwich with other slice of bread. Spread 1 side with 1/2 of the butter. (Want to cut calories..substitute canola oil spray). Place buttered side down in a hot skillet. Butter the other side. Flip when lightly browned. After both sides are browned..sprinkle with powdered sugar or cinnamon sugar.

This is a great breakfast, afternoon snack or even dessert. It packs protein and fiber for energy. Moms, this is a great way to get grains in your kids diets. Sshh.. it’ll be our little secret.

Try it out. Let us know what you think.  We think Elvis would be proud.
