Where To Grab Lunch Or Drinks In Greenwich Village?

When we think of lunch, it’s often a sandwich from the local deli, fast food (CRINGE)  or a slice from your local pizzeria. But what about  those times, when you want to sit down and have a proper lunch?  Business Lunch? Ladies Who Lunch? Where can you go? Hold on to your passport, because we have the spot for you.

Onegin is a GORGEOUS restaurant in Greenwich Village, serving OUTSTANDING food with a Russian flair. When you walk into this restaurant, you are immediately immersed in Pushkin’s literary works about Eugene Onegin. Plush velvet chairs, murals on the ceiling, gold light fixtures and verses from this novel flowing throughout the interior. Can I move in?

The special occasion was my friend’s post Birthday lunch and thought this would be the perfect spot to celebrate. We were seated at a table by the window, sipped our cocktails and chatted about what was the latest and greatest events going on in our lives. Feeling the hunger pains in our stomachs, we needed food. We ordered and anxiously awaited our feast.

First up – Pierogis. Pierogi is a luscious stuffed pocket, that is filled with either meat or cabbage. These were light and fluffy and served with a delicious sauce that looked like a clear broth, but packed so much flavor. Mmmmm.

I ordered the Beef Stroganoff that was presented in a cast iron frying pan and was set on a wooden board. The meat was tender and the sauce was creamy. Sinfully delicious. My friend ordered the Chicken Kiev which looked like a giant drumstick, but SO wasn’t. It has a crunchy coating and when she cut into it, juices flowed from within. The meat was light and juicy from the incredible dill sauce. I sensed from her silence, she was in heaven.

Even though we were stuffed, we needed to have something sweet. As per our server’s recommendation, we shared the Havla Parfait. It’s like a cross between a marshmallow and nugget, that was filled with pistachios and served with fresh blackberries. Not to sweet…just perfect. YUMMY!!

I first discovered Onegin, through a business associate. We met there for a business lunch and immediately fell in love with the place. They offer a $20 Lunch Special that offers a fabulous setting for a meeting of the minds and won’t break the bank. If Prix Fixe isn’t for you, they also offer Lunch A La Carte too.

I do admit, that their dinner menu doesn’t fall into Cheapeats, but how about Happy Hour? This is the perfect spot for after work drinks and won’t clear out the bank account.

When the lights go down, that’s when this place is transformed into a sexy lounge. They were even voted “Best Restaurant Bathroom To Have Sex In.” Don’t shoot the messenger.

Happiness. $25 and under.

P.S. Thanks Noelle Birk and the entire staff for making my friend’s Birthday one she’ll never forget.
