Our Favorite Green Products

At Cheapeats, we love sharing ways that you can save money. Or as we like to say; “Cheap and Chic.” Besides our restaurant recommendations, we like to test and sample products and share our finds with you.

A few months back, we attended NYC’s first Green Festival. We scoured the booths, to find the latest and greatest products, that will help you lead a more Green life, without breaking the bank. Here they are:

OUR FAVORITE GREEN PRODUCTS

SNAP SACEverywhere you go, someone is selling Reusable Tote Bags, to help reduce your carbon footprint. But, no one is selling bags like Snap Sac. These FASHIONABLE bags, come in the COOLEST designs, and can go from the grocery store, to the office, to the gym, to the beach and even out for drinks. (The XL bag is perfect for a weekend getaway) They’re durable and fold into a small snap envelope. They’re cool, but most of all THEY’RE CHEAP. ($3.99 – $9.99) They come in a variety of sizes, colors and designs. You can also purchase a set for $20.  Go Green in style. No one will ever call you a bag lady again. 🙂

MAMMA CHIA If you keep up on the latest healthy trends to hit the market, you’ll recognize the name; “Chia Seeds.” Chia seeds are an Ancient Aztec  SuperFood that are rich in Omega-3, fiber, amino acids, antioxidants and protein. They aid in digestion and wait for it….SUPPRESS YOUR APPETITE. Holla!! Mamma Chia turned this superfood into a vitality beverage. Their variety of flavors include – Blackberry Hibiscus (my personal fave), Cherry Lime, Cranberry Lemonade, Coconut Mango and many more. Each drink contains – 2500mg Omega 3, Fiber, Antioxidants, 4g Protein and 95mg Calcium. They’re lightly sweetened, Gluten-Free and Vegan. Mostly, they taste good. I will warn you, when you put the seeds in liquids, they get a little slimy, similar to juice pulp.  But I think that’s part of the fun. KIDS WILL LOVE IT. They also donate 1% of their sales to support healthy, local food systems. Seed Your Soul.

EARTH SWAGWhen you send the kids off to school with their lunch, bring your lunch to work or carry snacks with you, what do you usually pack them in? Plastic bags? How many do you think you go through in a day? Month? Year? Where do you think they go? In a landfill that lasts FOREVER!!!. How about using a reusable container that is fun, cool, machine washable and cute. Earth Swag has answered your prayers. They make reusable snack and sandwich bags, that are food-safe and fun. You can choose from either their flower or lady bug design. I bought the flower snack baggies. Everytime I wip mine out of my bag, I get so many compliments and the usual question; “Where did you buy those?” Moms & Dads and anyone that wants to cut down on their use of plastic….BUY THESE BAGS.

KISHU CHARCOALIf we added up how much we spend on bottled water every year, we’d be shocked. Yes, you can purchase a Brita or other home purifying systems, but they’re not cheap. And the filters only last 30days. What if I told you, that you can buy something cheaper and lasts for 6 months. Would you be interested? Kishu Charcoal is a charcoal stick, that you  place in any pitcher of water or personal water bottle, and purifies your water for a fraction of the cost. We sampled it and was amazed at how well it works and is still working. How do you know when it’s run out? The bubbles around the stick are gone. Genius.

TRUE BODY PRODUCTS I don’t know about you, but I’m very conscious about the products I use on my body. I’m a big ingredient reader and dare you to read the ingredients on your soap or facial cleanser package. Scary right? True Body Products’ mission, is to create products that contribute to a healthy lifestyle, while remaining affordable. They’re made in Vermont, GO USA, and are packaged in boxes that are made from 100% recycled material. I bought the Facial Soap and use it as a bath and sometimes facial soap. It leaves my skin smooth and clean, without feeling dried out. I love their product, love their mission and am a user for life.

BRAD’S RAW FOODSSnacking is an everyday event for all of us. But as our waistline expands, the guilt sets in. Brad’s Raw Foods, allow you to snack and not feel guilty. They made from Kale, Vegetables, Seeds, Grains and taste GREAT. The flavors are similar to your favorite store bought potato chip, but are packed with nutrients and little fat. Once you try it, you’ll like it.

GUZU Take a look in your closet? How many old computers or electronic gadgets do you have and don’t know what to do with? Guzu is a Recycling Service that PAYS you for your old gadgets. It’s simple to do. Find your gadget on their site, they’ll make you an offer, send you a UPS shipping label and ship it out. Once it’s received…YOU GET PAID. They also offer this service to businesses and schools. For every order that is processed, a tree is planted. But most of all, they keep electronics out of landfills. I think it’s a brilliant idea and service.

VOKASHIVokashi is a kitchen waster solution for homes and small businesses. You can discard your kitchen scraps in your personal bucket, they’ll come pick it up and use it for composting. Could it be any simpler?

ECO-ME Their cleaning and pet products are made from Plant Essential Oils and Food-Grade Ingredients. They DON’T have any preservatives, dyes, sulfates, phosphates and detergents. What I love, is each product has a person’s name, so it’s easy to remember. I use Emma – laundry detergent and Dave – floor cleaner.

NYOTA’S TING – If you’re looking for a Vegetarian or Vegan Caterer, Nyota is the BOMB. Her food has a Caribbean and African vibe to it, and is packed with a ton of flavor. It will knock your socks off. She takes ordinary dishes like BBQ Chicken, Roast Duck and Curry Goat and spins them into Vegetarian/Vegan dishes. I had the BBQ Chicken (minus the chicken) over Jolof Brown Rice. My mouth is watering just thinking about it. The only way you can find her is by phoning 718-217-0583.

But wait, there’s more – Glee Gum, Raaw, Susty Party, Ecowrist, Dr Bronner, Bhaktiveda, Safe Paint, Fresh Wave, Shuga, Runa Tea, National Gourmet InstitueHigh Vibe, Alignyo and Elle Cante.

I hope this helps you realize, that you can be Green, without having to spend a lot of Green.
