Local Farm To Table Supper

Cheapeats had the pleasure of attending Whole Foods‘ – Local Farm To Table Supper. It was held at ON TAP, in their Columbus Circle Store. Everything on the menu, originated within 100 miles of the store. I grabbed a glass of the most delicious sparkling Pinot Blanc and let the feasting begin.

FIRST COURSE

Cheese and Charcuterie Plates

The cheeses and meats were supplied by Sprout Creek Farm, Old Chatham Sheepherding, Chestnut Valley Charcuterie and were paired with crusty bread by Hot Bread Kitchen and olives, Marcona almonds and chutneys by Schoolhouse Kitchen. Although I could have feasted on this all night long, I paced myself, because I knew there was more coming.

SECOND COURSE

Gotham Greens with Herb and Buttermilk Dressing

Gotham Greens, is a rooftop farm in Greenpoint, Brooklyn. They produce the most delicious greens and herbs. It was so fresh and clean tasting, but combined with the dressing…OUTSTANDING. I could have been happy with just this.

If you think salads are boring, you must make try this recipe at home.

THIRD COURSE

Farro Salad with Haricot Vert, Mint, and Salvatore Ricotta

Farro is very similar to brown rice, but SO much better. It has a nutty flavor and is great as a salad or side dish. LOVED IT.

FOURTH COURSE

Shaved Fennel Salad with Sunchokes, Parsley and Red Onion

I LOVE Fennel. It has a licorice flavor and the texture of celery. What is a Sunchoke? It’s as if a potato and artichoke had a child. Delicious. The salad had so much crunch and flavor. BRILLIANT!

FIFTH COURSE

Trinity Seafood Steamed Clams from NJ with Shallots and Lieb Cellars White Wine NY

Tasted like the sea.

SIXTH COURSE

Simply Grazin’s Step Beef with Chimichurri Sauce

I don’t eat much red meat, but I had to try this. The meat was tender, moist and immediately could tell these cows were fed well. DELISH.

DESSERT

Lemon Cornmeal Cake with Blueberry Compote

FIKA Chocolate

All I can say is…HEAVEN ON A PLATE.

Aside from the delicious food, what made this evening magical, were the people. Being able to meet the representatives from the farms, vineyard, brewery, bakery and suppliers,  and seeing the pride on their faces….PRICELESS.

That’s John Morales from Lieb Cellars saying hi. His wines are so yummy and priced right. Who needs Champagne, when you can have sparkling Pinot Blanc?

The Guys behind the bar – Left to Rght

Aaron Saxe, Andrew Hodnicki, Matt Morabito

YOU GUYS ROCK 🙂

And a little something to wash it all down from Honey Drop Tea and Gorilla Coffee. Mmmmm.

I want to say thank you to Laura Hall, Halley Zelicoff, the entire team at Whole Foods and all the food suppliers, for a memorable evening.  If that was my last meal, I would die a happy woman.

Happiness, $25 and under.
