It’s not always easy for a Vegan nor Vegetarian to find a dining spot. Slap on a carnivore dining companion and you’ve asked for the impossible. Or have you?

Teany is a quaint cafe and tea house on the Lower Eastside, that serves up fare that is friendly to all. I recently stopped in on a chilly rainy day looking for some belly warming food that was good and healthy and of course, a cup of tea.

You’re first handed a small silver binder that lists 98 varieties of teas. Jasmine Green Tea is my tea of choice (I think #34). Don’t drink tea? No worries, they serve coffee too. Then the food menu. I decide to go with scrambled eggs with brie and spinach and a side salad.

Shortly, my server brings me a pot a steaming green tea. I pour myself a cup and let out a sigh..AAhhhhh. I whip out my phone to check in on foursquare and come to see they’re offering a special. “I found sunshine on a cloudy day.” Then my meal comes. Looking good.

My eggs were like a light and airy souffle filled with fresh spinach and brie with mesclun greens on the side that were lightly dressed with a balsamic vinaigrette. Don’t forget 2 slices of whole grain bread. I take my first bite – creamy, cheesy and TASTY. Exactly what the doctor ordered. For all you Vegans out there,  you can substitute tofu on any egg dish. I actually requested that on mine but the server forgot. 🙁

Besides tasty sandwiches, salads, breakfast and brunch, they offer a full array of sweet treats too. Vegan options as well.

So if you find yourself on the Lower Eastside and are looking for a quaint cafe to grab a bite and a pot of tea, visit Teany. It’s the little cafe that could. If you’re lucky, you may spot Moby.

P.S. With the special I found on foursquare…my meal cost $5. YIPPEE!!!
