Ever have one of those days when the only thing that will make you feel better is a bowl of soup? But not just any soup…..Noodle Soup. The kind you can only get in a Chinese Restaurant.

Cheapeats recently had one of those days and headed down to Chinatown to feed our soul. Where did we go? Canal Best Restaurant.

Canal Best Restaurant (266 Canal Street 212-274-1535) is a small restaurant, conveniently located on Canal Street. From the window you can see ducks hanging under the heat lamps and the cooks cranking out meals within minutes. Round communal tables are scattered inside with 80’s wood paneling on the walls. Kitschy chic?

My friend and dining partner assured me that I was going to love it. OK….I’m game. One Seafood Soup, one Chicken Soup with Vegetables and an Egg Roll. Fingers crossed.

Before you know it, steeping bowls of soup are set down in front of us and a dish of with 2 crispy egg rolls in the center of the table. Smells good. The Seafood Soup was a flavorful broth filled with fresh crunchy veggies , shrimp, scallops, mushrooms. I take one spoonful and I immediately let out a big sigh. Uuhhhh….just what the doctor ordered.

My friend’s soup was the bomb!!!! Large pieces of chicken with crunchy Chinese broccoli in an broth with thin noodles. A dash of soy sauce completed the flavor party. OUTSTANDING!!!! Note to self….order her’s next time.

The egg rolls were crispy, crunchy and not greasy at all. Dipped in duck sauce and hot mustard, the perfect compliment to our meal.

How much did this happy feast cost???? $20   CHA CHING!!!!
