Noodle Bar in Greenwich Village

Noodles are to Asians like spaghetti is to Italians. A quick and easy meal, pretty much loved by all. But as we all know, just because it’s easy doesn’t mean it’ll be good. I found a new spot in Greenwich Village that is.

Noodle Bar is a cozy Asian Bistro serving delicious noodles and wok fired dishes. It’s unassuming exterior looks like an old fashioned soda shop from way back when. But don’t be fooled, this is the real deal.

Step inside and seat yourself at the long counter looking into the open kitchen. There are a couple of small tables but the counter is where is the action is. The menu features small plates, san bien (pressed sandwiches), salads, cold noodles, wok noodles, broth noodles and rice dishes. When in a noodle shop, go for the noodles. What’s this lunch special I see?  Soup, Spring Rolls and entree $7.95? Sign me up. Available Monday – Friday 11:30 – 3:30. No wonder this place is popular.

I have to admit I was so confused by all the appetizing choices that I referred to my server for a recommendation. “Do you like spicy?” “Sure do.” “Try the Mee Goreng.” “Sounds perfect.”

Before I knew it, a beautiful white square plate was placed in front of me. On it was a small bowl of soup, 2 spring rolls and my noodles. Smells good. I grab a set of chopsticks and napkins from the canister on the counter and prepare to dig in. First the soup. It was combination of Vegetable and Hot & Sour Soup. Sweet and sour with a little kick. Yum. Next are the spring rolls. Crispy, not greasy with a drizzle of  dipping sauce. Yummy. Now for the noodles. Mee Goreng is a  mixture of bean sprouts, tomatoes, fried tofu, potatoes and egg noodles tossed in a tangy but velvety sauce with just a hint of heat. I got mine with chicken but you can also choose from beef, veggie and shrimp. I take a taste and within an  instant my tastebuds were singing. So flavorful with the perfect combination of sweet and heat. I looked at my server and gave him the OK sign. Good recommendation!!!!!

Noodle Bar is an elbow on the table kind of place but that’s part of its charm. They serve, beer, wine, soda and a wide variety of teas. If you find yourself in the mood for some good noodles, come on down!!!!  CASH ONLY.
