Great Eats In Williamsburg

Cheapeats was  recently  invited to dine at a Williamsburg Bistro, compliments of the owner. How generous and unexpected. Always being on the hunt for new dining spots, I graciously accepted.  Sure hope the food is good.

Lokal Mediterranean Bistro is a cozy corner spot where Williamsburg and Greenpoint meet. I have driven by this restaurant many times but have never gone in. Finally I get to try it.

Upon my arrival, I am immediately greeted by the owner Serkan. “Thank you for coming.  I’m so glad you can join us this evening.” “The pleasure is all mine.” I am seated at a table by the window and away we go.  My server was a lovely girl with a sweet smile. “Can I get you something to drink while you look over the menu?” I thank her and order a glass of Rioja.

I glance at the menu and see plenty of items to choose from, all with a Mediterranean flare. This is going to be a tough choice because everything looks good. I decide to take my server’s recommendation and go with the roasted chicken. But they had a little surprise lined up for me. A roasted beet and goat cheese salad, compliments of the chef. How did they know that’s one of my favorites? Thinly sliced beets with crunchy frisee and creamy goat cheese  in the center with a balsamic reduction drizzled over.  Delish!

I’m later joined by Vanina, the restaurant’s marketing rep.  Before we can start talking shop, my entree arrives. I look at this masterpiece on a plate and  turn to  my server with a big smile. “You did good.”  My simple chicken dinner was not so simple. Chicken supreme over a bed of roasted root vegetables. I grab my knife and fork and dig in.

The chicken was so moist, it was like BUTTA. The root veggies were a combo of beets, carrots, potatoes, mushrooms and artichoke hearts. Rich, warm and earthy. The piece de resistance … THE SAUCE, THE SAUCE, THE SAUCE. What can I say about the sauce?  Words escape me. The only thing I can say is my mouth is drooling just thinking about it.

The true sign of a good restaurant is how well they execute the simplest of dishes. Not only did Lokal execute this well, they knocked it out of the park and knocked my socks off too!! My compliments to the Chef,  Sherkan, Vanina and my server. Thank you for a memorable evening and meal.

Happiness, $25 and under.

P.S. What is in that sauce?

Such a great review, thank you! Thank you as well for coming to Lokal, it was absolutely a pleasure meeting you. For the sauce – for sure I will ask Serkan or Gino and let you know:) Although I believe that this might be a well kept Chef secret….
