The Perfect Remedy To Cure Your Hunger

Coffee ShopRecently I was strolling around the Lower Eastside with a new friend looking for a spot to grab brunch. It was a warm, sunny Saturday. Perfect to be dining al fresco. But my friend wanted to be inside with air conditioning. Truly one of the big debates between men and women….temperature.  OK, so I didn’t catch some rays but was my hunger satisfied? Read on and see.

Remedy is a 24hr diner for hipsters serving up classic diner fare with a twist. The decor is a mixture of a classic 50’s diner and European bistro. Looks good but how’s the food? My friend ordered breakfast – omelet and coffee. Me, I was feeling lunch. Chinese chicken salad and an iced tea.

When the waitress set my dish in front of me, I looked at her in disbelief. “This can’t all be for me.”  She looked at me and smiled. “Enjoy.”  This salad was so large, it could have fed a family of four. OK, I’m exaggerating. 2 people…easy.

This massive salad was a  combination of greens, cabbage, scallions, rice noodles, fried wontons, grape tomatoes topped with well seasoned grilled chicken in a tahini dressing. I stared at it for a few seconds gazing at it’s beauty and freshness wondering how I was going to attack. My strategy….Cut and chop. My first bite was a combination of textures and flavors. Crunch, soft, tang and sweet. In other words….Yum.

After a good 30 minutes, I barely made a dent but was stuffed. “Shall I wrap it up?” The dilemma. I hate to waste all this food  but do I really want to carry it around with me? Doggy bag it is.

If you’re looking for fresh and wholesome comfort food day or night…Remedy is the spot. Leftovers optional.
