A Blend Of Latin Flavors
Long Island City is known for it’s waterfront, galleries, easy commute to NYC and now restaurants. This area is full of quaint bistros, cafes and restaurants. My choice for today. Blend.
Blend is a Latin fusion restaurant featuring dishes from the Latin American culture. This spot has a modern decor with dim lighting, cool music in the background and hopping bar scene.
It was chilly day and wanted something to fill and warm me. Paella. I’m picky about my Paella but the waiter assured me that it’s a good choice. I’ll be the judge of that.
My friend and I shared an Avocado Salad that was fantastic. Creamy avocado, mixed greens and a citrus vinaigrette. Round 1 – Very good
The service that day was spotty. I’m assuming the waiter got distracted by watching the game. As a diner, unacceptable.
When our entrees finally arrived, my friend’s tostones were cold and soggy. Tasted like they had been sitting out for a while. She asked for them to make a fresh batch which they graciously did. My paella was actually very good. A heaping serving. I’m embarrassed to say that I ate it all. My fork just wouldn’t sit down. Round 2 – OK
They were highly recommended by a local who frequents this neighborhood spot. I’m assuming our mixed experience was a result of an off night. I will give them the benefit of the doubt and give them another try. My advice to them is ignore the TV and pay attention to your patrons. You never know who’s watching.
Happiness, $25 and under.
