Working in real estate, you never quite know where you’ll be and if you’ll have time to eat. On a day showing apartments in Brooklyn, I had the unusual happen…2hours to kill between appointments and  just around lunchtime. Can it be? I can actually sit down and have a proper lunch?

Strangely so, I was in the mood for something that wasn’t quite breakfast but also wasn’t quite lunch. I know, crazy. When I get a craving, there’s no rest until I find it. Strolling along 5th Avenue there were many options. Mexican, Thai, Chinese, Bagels, Delis and Italian…but nothing jumped out at me. It was a lovely Indian Summer day so dining outside was a must. Just like they do in Europe. BISTRO…THAT’S THE TICKET. But could I find one?

I came across a charming corner spot with tables outside. One quick look at the menu told me that I found what I was looking for. A sweet girl with a French accent  sat me outside. Boy, this is a good sign when the natives work here. I skimmed over the menu which was very interesting. They offered a 3 course prix fixe lunch menu for I believe $15. That was really tempting but I didn’t want that much food. So while in Paris, do what the Parisians do. Quiche Lorraine with a side Frisee Salad and a Decaf Cafe Au Lait. Where was I? AOC Bistro.

While sitting there, enjoying the fabulous weather and listening to the workers speak French, I pretended I was in Paris on the Left Bank. Don’t judge me!! The first bite of my quiche made it even more real. This was superb. Creamy filling, flaky crust and salad with a tangy Dijon mustard vinaigrette. C’est si bon!

If I was Dorothy I would have been clicking my heels to take me there, but alas it was only Park Slope. So if want a quick escape to Paris.. you only have to go as far as Park Slope.

Happiness, $25 and under.
